Meeting of the Council of the Archdiocese – December 9 2016

Appointment and functioning of the new council

Bishop John congratulated the newly appointed members of the Council for their election, which took place during the Ordinary General Assembly of the Archdiocese (11-12 November 2016).

Bishop John expressed his sadness at the decision made by Mr Serge Runge no longer to be a candidate to the Council. In the name of the outgoing council, Bishop John expressed his gratefulness for the task accomplished by Mr Serge Runge for the past three years as a secretary to the Council.

Bishop John invited the members of the Council to elect a vice-president, a secretary and a treasurer for the coming three years.

At the suggestion of Bishop John

Reverend Father Jean Gueit is elected vice-president,

Mr Alexandre Victoroff is confirmed as a treasurer.

Mr Nicolas Lopoukhine is elected secretary to the Council.

Feedback on the General Assembly. All the members of the Council agreed that the Assembly went well, in an atmosphere of calm and serenity. The participants were happy about the various statements that were made, giving rise to a stimulating debate. The Council decided to thank in particular the leaders of St Serge Institute and St Serge parish for their help in the management of the General Assembly (general organisation, welcoming of the participants, help with the meal).

The council conducted an overview of the main topics of interest to the members of the council concerning the life of the Archdiocese, which should drive the Council’s efforts for the next few months (commemoration of the centenary of the Council of Moscow and the different events that gave birth to out diocese and shaped its identity, liturgical training of the clergy, monastic life, recruiting of the priests, role of the deans, functioning of the Council).
