Glory to God! We have been able to buy a building for our mission parish in Kringsjåveien 28 in Bergen! We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped us reach this goal! We would not have made this without you!
The Annunciation of the Holy Virgin Mary Orthodox Parish has roots going back to the 1990s. However it was formally created as late as 2018 by Archbishop Jean upon the return of Fr. Theodor Svane and his family to Norway after several years in the USA. Fr. Theodor is a graduate of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in New York and also spend a couple of years as an assistant priest at St. Seraphim Cathedral in Santa Rosa California. The mission parish started off as a small group consisting of a couple of families and individuals, but today we are on average between 40-50 people on a Sunday Divine Liturgy. New people show up every weekend. Today the mission parish consist of people from many backgrounds, walks of life and nationalities. We have many kids and young people. Almost no one is above 50 years old. Approximately 75% are Norwegian by birth.

We started the process og acquiring our current building one year ago. It has been a lot of work, but we have also been overwhelmed by the support we have gotten from all over the world. We were able to raise almost 300.000 Euros including 70.000 in interest free loans. We took ownership of our new building on Sunday December 15th on the feast of St Tryphon, apostle to Norway. We are looking very much forward to make use of the building which is a 5 storey multipurpose building which houses a Student Dorm for 10 students as well as offices for rent. We will turn the meeting hall into a beautiful orthodox sanctuary and have already made plans for an iconostasis that will draw on Norwegian elements of art. At the moment we are accepting students for our dorm and would be delighted to receive orthodox students from abroad and especially our Archdiocese who would be interested to study in Bergen, which is one of the major University towns in Norway. We want to make the dorm into a place of studies, prayer and deepening of faith in Jesus Christ. Students in the dorm will be able to start and end their day with prayer and go deeper our faith through lectures and other program. Read more about the student dorm and see pictures of dorm rooms here.
